Persons with a birth place and date but missing a baptism
Every branch of a family tree must have an ending but these people are the first barriers which we reach and they stop us going back into the seventh or sometimes even the sixth generation. In some cases a source of major frustration. We know about them and in some cases have managed to deduce who their parents were from other sources but we cannot find their baptisms. Henry Lee and Ellen Parkinson get a page to themselves.
John Kirkham was born 1808-09 in Bolton, died 3rd September 1845 at 4 Noble Street, Bolton. We have managed to find his burial at Egerton Congregational Church, where he is buried with his wife and one of their daughters. Also buried there are two more of his children along with their families.
He may have had a brother or cousin called Charles. They were witnesses at each other's weddings. Charles lives longer than John and is on the 1851, 1861 and 1871 censuses. Using these as sources, he was born 1806 - 1809 in either Longworth (1861) or Turton (1851 and 1871).
Egerton Congregational Church was founded in 1812 following a split from the Walmsley Unitarian Church. Unfortunately, the baptism register of the latter comes to an end at October 1793 with a couple of subsequent entries and then the text "Here Davies left off, and I believe some hundreds of names are lost. This is to be deeply regretted, but I don't see how this evil can now be remedied. Wm. Probert." Baptisms start again at 1811, presumably when the new incumbent, Rev Thomas Jones took up his post. There are three baptisms of Kirkhams recorded, all to John and Hannah Kirkham (nee Whittle) of Hale, Longworth; Sarah 1787, Richard 1792 and Dinah 1793.

Edward Wright was born 1814 at Preston according to the 1861 and 1871 censuses for 4 Lower Pitt Street, Preston. Nothing on the IGI for Preston.
Mary Allison was born 1813 at Salford. Sources are the censuses of 1851, 1861 and 1871. The Mary Ellison born 20th June 1813 at Manchester Cathedral, parents Richard and Jane Ellison is not a good match - the family were recorded as Manchester, not Salford whilst other baptisms are recorded explicitly as Salford.
James Adamson According to the 1881 and 1891 censuses, was born 1838 in Dundee. His discharge from the army gives his birth as Liff, Dundee. No baptism can be found for him or his brother Andrew.
Alexander McDonald Birthdate varies 1846, 1848, 1851 and 1848 but place is constant as Perth, Perthshire.
James Simpson born around 1820 at Leslie, Fife. No baptism for him or his siblings, Mary, Elizabeth and John.
